Personal Reflection

Pray for Israel

My husband and I recently returned from a once-in-a-lifetime-bucket-list trip to Israel. We went with a group from our church who knew exactly what we should see and who the best trip leader/teacher we could have. Needless to say, we were changed by all we saw, all we heard and all we learned.

But one of the main things we learned which I want to share with you is that we need to pray for Israel!

In A.D. 70, Titus and the Roman legions destroyed the Temple and scattered the Jewish people as slaves among the various provinces of the Roman Empire as well as being dispersed throughout the world.

Because of this, their mantra became: Next year … in Jerusalem!”

Then, after nearly 2,000 years, the Jewish people began returning to their Promised Land in the late 1800’s.

At midnight on May 14, 1948, the Provisional Government of Israel proclaimed a new State of Israel. On that same date, the United States President Harry S. Truman, recognized the provisional Jewish government as de facto authority of the Jewish state.

Israel became a nation on May 14, 1948, after it was recognized as a country in the Middle East by the United Nations. However, conflict escalated the following day, on May 15, 1948, when the first Arab-Israeli war began.

The main reason for war; land. Even though Israel exists on one tiny piece of land surrounded by much larger Arab nations such as Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Egypt. Biblically speaking, Israel has a right to exist as a nation in its own land that God gave to the descendants of Jacob, grandson of Abraham (Genesis 12:7).

So why am I asking you to pray? Every country has escalated their hatred of the Jewish people. It is Satan’s final attack to kill what God holds precious – His chosen people – and to show the world that God will not keep His covenant with them. But of course, of God will! Another reason to pray? Thousands of Jews are coming to believe in the one true Messiah – Jesus! They are now born-again Messianic Jews proclaiming Jesus as their Messiah. We need to pray for more to come to know Jesus.

As I began working on this blog, a shooting occurred at a synagogue here in the US and then just this week, rockets began firing once again into the Gaza strip by the Arabs.

With hatred of Jewish people once again spiking around the world — a new report released this week finds that anti-Semitic attacks in the U.S. doubled in 2018 — and now with the ghastly shooting inside the synagogue near San Diego, this is precisely the right time to be asking for prayer for God’s nation.

The Bible clearly says that those who will bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem and the protection over the people of Israel. Jesus IS coming back soon! And it will be in Jerusalem!

The Lord has said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you. I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:1-3
