Being Organized Helps the Needy

I am sure you are wondering how on earth my being organized can help the needy!?  Well, let me explain.

Beginning this time of year, almost every church, school and organization is crying out for food donations.  Some ask for just one item, as “please bring 2 bags of sugar”.  Others ask for a group of items, as soup and other canned goods.

I have found that if I don’t keep a pad of paper and pen in my purse to write down these requests, I will never remember to buy them.  I also need to remember to transfer these items onto my grocery list.

We went to church last week and saw the bags of food people had brought.  We had forgotten.  And we felt awful.  Why hadn’t I thought to at least write down what they requested?  It’s such a simple thing, to bring cans of food.  Yet its impact is huge.  This small act could keep a person or a family from hunger.

I am sharing this because I am passionate that we share what God has blessed us with.  Many of us have so much.  We have houses and cars and money to buy food.  We have medicine and stores that sell everything we could ever possibly want.  What we need are eyes that see the need in other people’s lives.  I pray you take time in your life to organize and plan your giving.  For we are actually giving to Christ Himself.

Manna from Heaven

“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.  For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’

“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?  And when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’

“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’”
